Summary:
|
On Thursday, August 24, 2023 at approximately 2:05 p.m. Lincoln Tech administration, custodial, and campus supervision smelled smoke in our vicinity. A home next to the back of the school had smoke coming from the back of it. As a team we methodically went first to the Head Start building and evacuated the staff, as the pre-school students had already left for the day. At that time, we also moved the students and staff from our two classes being held at the back of the campus. We moved them out of precaution due to the smoke. All students were quickly and safely moved to the multipurpose room on our main campus.
At the same time our campus supervisor, Rick Williams, took it upon himself to exit our campus and make his way towards the home. He knocked on the door to alert the residents. A young woman came to the door (with her dog) and was told she needed to evacuate her home as it was about to be engulfed in flames. She was very thankful that Rick came to the door because she did not realize the house was on fire.
We would like to recognize Rick Williams for going above and beyond and potentially saving the life a young woman and an animal.
