Subject: (Item OAI-3) Resolution 2021-03 the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (NSLA) establishes a Farm to School Program in order to assist eligible entities, through grants and technical assistance, in implementing farm to school programs that improves access to local foods in eligible schools. Summary: In order to fulfill the farm to school mandate in NSLA, funding is provided to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on an annual bases to support grants, technical assistance, and the federal administrative costs related to the USDA Farm to School Grant. Lodi Unified School District, if selected, will enter into an agreement with the federal government to carry out the project.
Funding: The USDA awards competitive grants to support farm to school programs nationwide. Lodi Unified School District, if selected, will be required to support a 25 percent match of the total project cost.
Recommendation: It is recommended the Board of Education adopt Resolution 2021-03.
